Abstract :
Component Based Software Engineering (CBSE) has been adopted universally amongst the IT industry for quick assembly of customized modular software systems. It has an inordinate potential for minimizing development time, cost and effort, which otherwise may extend beyond weeks or months´ time for integration. The software development companies prefer adopting reusable components. The components can be procured as ready-to-use Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) components or can be developed in-house or pre-existing components can be fabricated. Such a decision of Build-or-Buy-or- Re-use depends upon various factors. Application Package Software has provided a customized approach for developing independent software components which are ready to be integrated with existing software systems. Its main purpose is to provide tailor-made components as per the requirements of the user. The research aims at optimizing the selection of right mix of components, (COTS, in-house or reusable)by minimalizing the overall cost&Source Lines of Code (SLOC) and simultaneously maximizing the system reliability under the Recovery Block Scheme.
