Abstract
The capacitor voltage in modular multilevel converter contains multiple low order harmonics which will induce harmonics in the output voltage and/or current through the modulation process. Harmonics generated by a grid-connected modular multilevel converter with direct modulation and output current control is analyzed. Proportional-resonant controller tuned at the 3rd harmonic frequency is used for eliminating the influence of the capacitor voltage ripple on the output current control. The analysis is verified by simulation results.
