Abstract :
In this paper, a new battery/ultracapacitor (UCs) hybrid energy storage system (HESS) based on bi-directional Z-Source converter is proposed for electric drive vehicles. Different from previous HESS, by using the bi-directional Z-source topology, extra dc-dc converter is no longer needed. The UCs have wide operation range and the cost of battery package and corresponding balance circuit is reduced. The control schematic, small signal modeling are presented. Both simulation and experiments are demonstrated to verify the effectiveness.
