  • Abstract
Manned submersibles are used for surveying and underwater exploration missions. In this paper, an effort is made to do a preliminary design of a twin sphere hull manned submersible which can accommodate three crew members to operate at ocean depth of 1000 metre. The safety of the structure against elastic yielding is studied using ANSYS APDL. The outer fairing of the hull is studied using ANSYS CFX to estimate drag forces induced on structure for various operating speeds to estimate effective horsepower (EHP) requirement for the vehicle.
