Abstract :
A circularly polarized (CP) dual frequency cross shaped slotted microstrip patch antenna is designed for microsatellite applications in this paper. Asymmetric cross-shaped slot are embedded in the middle of the square patch for CP radiation and four hexagonal slots are etched on the four sides of the square patch for desired dual frequency. The proposed antenna is excited by a single probe fed in the second quadrant of the patch. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth is approximately 40 MHz (2.17 GHz to 2.21 GHz) for lower band and 70 MHz (3.25 GHz to 3.32 GHz) for higher band and average peak gain 6.13 dBiC and 5.45 dBiC, respectively. In addition, the antenna shows good radiation pattern performance with relatively stable gains over the operating band, which is very attractive for satellite applications. The overall dimension of the antenna is 0.305λ × 0.305λ × 0.012 λ.
