  • Abstract
Intramuscular injection is one of the most common medical procedures performed worldwide every year; however there is still much that is unknown ahout this process. The research focuses on the development of additional features to the Smart Syringe that will monitor its movement and the forces applied to the plunger by the user during injection. This advancement will allow for data to be collected to better understand and determine the quality of the user´s abilities and further improve current practicing guidelines. These results can determine the type of injection given, describe the actions of each stage of the procedure, determine the tissue layers that were penetrated, whether or not the bone was struck, and improve the accuracy of the trajectory.
