Abstract :
SiO2-SrO-Na2O glasses containing incremental amounts of yttrium (Y) and/or cerium (Ce), previously developed and characterized, were assessed for cytocompatibility using the methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay with L929-fibroblast cells and MC3T3-osteoblast cells. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed LP-HY (78%-133% viability ) and LP-YCe (17%-194% viability) glass extracts maintained cytocompatibility at the majority of doses and time periods, in comparison with the osteoblast control cell population.
