Abstract :
Astronaut health and wellness is a key component within any manned spaceflight. While there has been research advances in the monitoring of physiology of astronauts, the research has focused on data acquisition devices for discontinuous monitoring, retrospective analysis and real-time univariant display. Recent medical research is demonstrating the potential of Big Data analytics techniques for earlier onset detection of a range of conditions together with advanced analytics and visualization for advanced clinical decision support tools. In addition, the continuous monitoring of wellness based on clinical condition correlation rather than the assessment of vital sign monitoring will provide more advanced prognostics and health management as applied within the context of the assessment of health and wellness of astronauts. This paper presents a framework for online health analytics. A series of clinical conditions relevant for astronaut health and wellness are used to demonstrate the potential of the use of Big Data online health analytics through their deployment. The demonstration is performed within a platform based on extending previous online health analytics research known as the Artemis and Artemis Cloud platforms which have demonstrated their relevance for online health analytics for Neonatal Intensive Care.
