Abstract
The rapid growth of wireless technologies has given the mobile users the ability to be able to select and access the appropriate NWs, based on different applications. For this type of situations, Vertical Handoff (VHO) algorithm is an unavoidable process in heterogeneous access networks (NWs). Taking VHO as a key factor, we studied an already proposed VHO decision algorithm and also tried to implement it in the entire VHO region present in a cellular coverage area, (instead of overlapping region of all the NWs in that area) which comprises of two and more heterogeneous access NWs. Again we have considered a better approach to maximize the battery lifetime of the mobile nodes, using co-operative game process (CGP), taking load balancing into account to avoid NW congestion. The experimental MATLAB simulation results show that the bidding model can be applied to the entire VHO region and battery lifetime can be maximized through CGP, which has not been studied so far to the best of our knowledge.
