Abstract :
Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communication of high speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. LTE is capable of delivering large data rate on the order of several megabits per second, which is even larger than the current 3G systems. This is very challenging as the wireless networks are subjected to interference, multipath and poor propagation channel characteristics that limit data rates. Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) in LTE enables radio systems to achieve significant performance gains by using multiple antennas at the Transmitter and Receiver, thereby leveraging the spatial dimension. When the signals are combined properly at the receiver, the signal quality or data rate for each MIMO user will be improved. This paper provides simulation data to show the performance of different MIMO transmission modes in an LTE system, so that in the future we could develop an adaptation algorithm which would result in better performance.
