Abstract :
Evolution of networks to higher rates involves the work of three key standards organizations: IEEE 802.3 for Ethernet, OIF for higher-rate electrical signaling and for the Flex Ethernet Initiative, and ITU-T Study Group 15 for Optical Transport network specifications in evolving beyond 100G; Lots of “moving parts” and coordination required. Recent developments including new Ethernet rates, Flex Ethernet require constant adjustment across the ecosystem to take new developments on board; A full 100G eco-system of standards was available in 2010. The generation including 400G is expected to be available in 2017.
