Abstract :
Linear flux-switching permanent magnet (LFSPM) motor attracts widely attention due to its high power density and high efficiency, in which both concentrated windings and PMs are on the short primary mover. Hence, it is very suitable for long stator applications such as urban rail transportations. However, a large numbers of existing LFSPM motors are obtained from simply splitting and unrolling the rotary FSPM motors, so that the traditional LFSPM motors usually have the defects of asymmetrical and non-sinusoidal flux linkage and back-electromotive force (back-EMF), high detent force and force ripple. In this paper, a novel type of modular and complementary LFSPM (MCLFSPM) motor is proposed. Then two different structures of the MCLFSPM motors are investigated, compared and approved by the two-dimensional finite element analysis (2-D FEA). Based on the analysis results, the preferred motor with better electromagnetic performance will be obtained, which possesses the advantages of symmetrical and sinusoidal back-EMF, relatively smaller detent force and force ripple.
