Abstract
In this paper, we propose a method combining waveform optimization with radar cross section (RCS) estimation to improve the range-angle imaging performance for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar. For each range-angle bin, the transmitting waveforms are optimized by our approach based on the principle of minimizing the mean-square error (MSE), and then the RCS of the associated scatter is estimated with the optimized waveforms. The above process is repeated for each range-angle bin in the target scene. Therefore, all RCSs in the target scene could be estimated more precisely, consequently improving imaging performance. The proposed method takes the advantages of waveform optimization in MIMO radar imaging. Simulations and comparisons with existing methods are conducted, showing the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.
