Abstract
We examined the reliability of a vegetation clutter model in the time-frequency domain using ultra high frequency (UHF) linear frequency modulation continuous wave (LFMCW) radar. The swaying vegetation is considered as a set of oscillators with a certain distribution density, according to the species of trees, yet with different amplitudes and different periods for various weather conditions. We were aiming to demonstrate that, by setting the parameters in our oscillating model appropriately, we could discover some properties of clutter data measured in a typical grove situated in southern China. The results of our work provide insight for the development of clutter modeling techniques that may be required for foliage penetration (FOPEN) radar.
