Abstract :
This paper aims to improve the network performance in cluster-based IEEE 802.15.4 beacon enabled WSNs with cluster mobility and traffic fluctuations. The cluster mobility and traffic fluctuations cause severe beacon collisions in such WSNs, leading to the great degradation in the network performance. To achieve the performance improvement, we introduce the traffic adaptive distributed backoff mechanism into previously proposed SD reuse mechanism for simple autonomous SD allocation, and examine the performance gain obtained by introducing the traffic adaptive distributed backoff mechanism. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the traffic adaptive distributed backoff in such type of WSNs.
