Abstract :
Although users´ (quality of) experiences have been investigated thoroughly at different levels in the last decade, little is known about how users are affected by temporal QoE (i.e., the longitudinal quality of users´ experiences considered over multiple usage episodes). While most studies consider QoE as a static and momentary event, in reality, QoE is mostly determined by multiple usage experiences. Subsequently, users´ attitudes and motives for using certain products and services should be reconsidered. This study fills this hiatus and assesses users´ motives related to temporal QoE development. We present the work in progress of a research project focused on time and place shifted video viewing in an in-home context. Our preliminary results, collected from three exploratory focus groups, show that users´ momentary QoE is influenced by the spatial and social context and the occurrence of technical distortions determined by device-related and network-related contexts. Users´ temporal QoE is mostly determined by costs, availability of content and usability of services.
