Abstract :
The concern for human welfare has caused the strong needs for a rapid, continuous, non-invasive sensor system of vital signs. Especially non-invasive and non-restraining systems are required, because they could monitor health status over a prolonged period. We have applied Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor to measure the vital signs. FBG could measure human pulse waves. Furthermore, based on the pulse waves, pulse rate and respiratory rate could be measured continuously and non-invasively. This paper describes the measurement method of Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) and Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) by single FBG sensor. The pulse wave could be easily measured by FBG sensor at the right wrist and right elbow. The Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) has carried out by using the pulse waves and reference BP values. This paper also describes the adequate calibration model to measure the BP. It could satisfy the international standard that has been set for sphygmomanometric method.
