Abstract :
Dear readers, First of all, I am very pleased to announce that the IEEE Communications Society has recently appointed a new Associate Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Wireless Communications, Dr. Hamid Gharavi, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), United States, who has been working in wireless communications in both industry and academia for a long time. Dr. Gharavi served as the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on CAS for Video Technology from 1996 to 2006, and thus has rich experience working on IEEE publications. Dr. Gharavi received the Charles Babbage Premium Award from the Institute of Electronics and Radio Engineering in 1986 and the IEEE CAS Society Darlington Best Paper Award in 1989. He served as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communication Society. In 1992 Dr. Gharavi was elected as a Fellow of IEEE for his contributions to low-bit-rate video coding and research in subband coding for image and video applications. Currently, Dr. Gharavi is leading a research group working extensively on smart grid communications in NIST. Upon the appointment of Dr. Hamid Gharavi as Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Wireless Communications, I believe that he will contribute to bring the magazine to a new and higher level. For more information about Dr. Hamid Gharavi, please refer to his statement following this Editor´s Note.
