Abstract :
The honeycomb sandwich construction is extensively used in aerospace and many other industries. It provides some key benefits over conventional material but it is considerably sensitive to damage, such as from object impact, mishandling, etc. Nondestructive inspection methods are needed for structural health examination. Active infrared thermography seems to be one of them. Honeycomb specimens with artificial defects were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the infrared thermography and heat pulse duration parameters in detecting defects.
