Abstract
Shingled recording has recently been introduced into hard disk drive products. The sharpness of transitions and track edges are controlled by the head field gradient. Microwave-assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) can increase the effective head field gradient through the application of a localised, high frequency (HF) magnetic field generated by a spin torque oscillator (STO). In this work we combine shingled recording and MAMR to determine the advantages and to quantify the influence of various write head designs.
