Abstract
This paper presents a novel analytical model for calculating 3D eddy current losses in rotor magnets with due account of the slotting effect of pole-slot combinations for a surface-mounted permanent magnet motor under load conditions. The effects of axial and circumferential segmentations on the eddy current loss at peak load operating conditions are quantified. 3D transient finite element analysis is performed to validate the results obtained by the 3D analytical model.
