Abstract :
The viscosity of Mn-ferrite ferrofluids can be tuned in low magnetic field range due to its soft ferromagnetic behavior . The ferrofluids act as a cooling medium in convection cooling electromagnetic device such as a transformer. They are useful in sealing, damping and hydrodynamic bearings. They are also potential heating agents for hyperthermia. The colloidal suspension of ferromagnetic nanoparticles gives high viscosity at low applied magnetic field. High surface energy and magnetic interactions between particles can lead to formation of agglomerates of ferromagnetic nanoparticles in the fluid. The stabilization of particle size in ferrofluid can be done by using surfactant coated particles dispersed in low viscous fluids as colloidal. In the present work we report the synthesis and magneto-viscosity of Mn-ferrite ferrofluid. We also describe the behavior of ferrofluid in the magnetic field.
