Abstract :
Due to the head reliability and the challenge of fabricating small grain size media with high SNR, the schedule of HAMR technology keeps pushing back. The PMR extension becomes very important to provide enough time for the emerging technologies to be in place. As the PMR is approaching its areal density (AD) limit, the AD gain from head and medium is relatively small and becomes more difficult. It requires more AD gain from the other aspects, such as coding and signal processing, HDI, etc.
