Abstract :
This study discusses the design of a novel homopolar-type magnetic bearing unifying four C-shaped cores for high output and low iron loss. It is found with 3D-FEA that the novel homopolar type is lower in iron loss and cost than the general homopolar type well known as low iron loss structure. In addition, the novel homopolar type can generate the same large suspension force as other types.
