Abstract :
Negative inductance has been shown to drastically improve the bandwidth of metamaterials and conformal antennas. This paper reports a floating variable negative inductance integrated circuit at S-band frequencies that is intended to be placed in parallel with inductive loads such as artificial magnetic conductors and slot antennas. Measurement data shows that the IC is stable when shunted by a 5 nH inductor in parallel with 50 Ω and achieves inductance that varies from -13 to -5.9 nH in response to a control voltage.
