Abstract :
Wind power is magnificent energy as renewable energy. There are already many wind farms in Jeju-island and the capacity of these wind farms take large proportion of power supply. Also Jeju-island has two HVDC connection with main land grid. Power supply from these connection play a crucial role in the island grid in power balance. For stable operation of HVDC, maintenance voltage stably is very important because of commutation. And STATCOM is one of FACTS facilities to compensate voltage. This facility can help voltage maintenance of some region such as HVDC converter station. Therefore STATCOM can help stable operation of HVDC and the stable operation of HVDC will improve transient stability of Jeju-island. In this paper, effect of STATCOM capacity on transient stability is evaluated. The different of stability between variable capacities is observed.
