Abstract :
The performance of spread spectrum through-wall radar (SS-TWR) is analyzed and compared with conventional pulse through-wall radar (PTWR). In order to simulate the real electromagnetic environment, all the echoes are generated via modeling and simulation of the finite-different time-domain method. Results show that SS-TWR has great advantages over PTWR in terms of covertness of transmitting signal, time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation, immunity from interference, as well as engineering implementation. The TOA of target can be estimated accurately in the correlation domain, even when the receiving signals of SS-TWR are added with -3.5 dB noise and sampled by a 4 bit, 1 Gs/s analog-to-digital converter.
