Abstract
This paper considers consumed energy reduction in fundamental point to point feed motion of industrial machines. First, we present a method to predict the energy consumed in AC motors operated in an S-curve trajectory consisting of trapezoidal acceleration/deceleration periods and constant velocity period, which are widely used in industrial machines. Energy consumption in each period and a linear acceleration period that minimizes the energy consumption are derived analytically. The analytical result shows that the trapezoidal velocity trajectory provides less energy consumption than the S-curve trajectory. The validity of the analysis is verified experimentally by applying to an industrial machine tool system.
