Abstract :
Temporal modulations of light from AC-LED sources can produce a number of visible artifacts, such as flicker, stroboscopic effect, etc. Flicker is common in low frequency situations, while the stroboscopic effect exists even at high frequencies. This paper studies the influence of the frequency of modulated light on the visibility of the stroboscopic effect, as well as the difference between Chinese and European observers. Results indicate that frequency shows a significant influence on the stroboscopic effect at both locations. The stroboscopic effect is less visible at higher frequencies and becomes hardly visible at frequencies above 750Hz.
