Abstract :
Summary form only given. In the large number of plasma treatment applications, arc plasma jet volume and length play an important role. In this study the effect of nitrogen and argon gases on arc plasma jet (APJ) was investigated which showed that nitrogen plasma flame has larger volume and longer length in comparison to argon´s. The nitrogen gas flow rate was varied from 0.2 to 2.66 slm in constant power of 3.6 kw and 5 mm distance between tow electrodes that led to increase the APJ longer flame. The optimum point which was the most stable one achieved in in 2 slm nitrogen flow rate and 18.5 cm flame length. In this flow rate the effect of applied power on APJ was investigated too, the results showed that the flame length was approximately constant but the volume and radiated light were increased. In this condition the optimum point obtained in 4.8kw and flame length was 24 cm.
