Abstract :
Summary form only given. Magnetic field augmentation in railguns enables a reduction of the electrical load on the armature while keeping the same level of the accelerating force. The additional magnetic field provided by the augmentation allows to reduce the magnetic fields produced by the rails. This means that the current through the rails and the armature can be reduced.
