Abstract
The IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) is the popular method for the mobile devices to access the Internet today; however, it does not provide the mechanism to balance the load of access points (APs) so as to avoid the congestion problem, thus maximizing the performance of each client. To improve the scalability of WLANs, a modified multiple-search multi-start framework for the micro-genetic algorithm (micro-GA) to decide the connection state of each client is presented in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms GA in terms of both the computation time and the quality.
