Abstract
As mobile devices with cameras and gyroscopes have become widely available. Unfortunately, gyroscopes in most existing mobile devices have limited sampling rates, and furthermore, they are not synchronized accurately with the camera modules, making it difficult to achieve high-quality computer vision and image processing results. This paper proposes a novel framework, which provides highly accurate synchronization between the gyroscope and the camera module. The gyroscope in our framework provides a high sampling rate of 8KHz to make it possible to record the camera motion highly accurately as well. We designed synchronization hardware block, and put that block in front end chip to operate with application processor of smart phone. Synchronization hardware block is around 200,000 gates. The proposed framework can greatly improve the quality of computer vision and image processing applications.
