Design of an open ICT4D knowledge repository

Reputable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development (ICT4D) collections focused on Sub-Saharan Africa exist but a platform where these silos of excellence can be aligned and shared for open access is not a reality yet. In this article, we explore questions on how that should be done and propose a first collection of the contents and the functionalities of an open browser-based ICT4D knowledge repository (ICT4DKR). To evaluate and extend this collection, a survey on the usefulness and functionality of a South African ICT4D knowledge repository (SA-ICT4DKR) was performed and will be reported in this article. From the results of the questionnaire, motivators, barriers and constraints on an ICT4DKR were derived.
