Abstract :
The operation of a frequency-switchable aperture-coupled patch antenna is described. The selection of one of two orthogonal slots on the ground plane dictates which dimension of the rectangular patch is excited and hence the resonant frequency. The slot selection can be controlled by either a pneumatically-operated copper-backed swinging arm or DC-biased PIN diodes. The simulated RF performance of both designs was compared.
