Abstract
This paper presents an ultra-wideband time-coded chipless RFID sensor to detect the quality of materials in civil engineering. The sensor is based on backscattering. A delay change is used to detect permittivity, whereas an amplitude change is used to detect both permittivity and loss of the material. Simulated and measured results are presented to validate the concept.
