Abstract :
As wireless connectivity becomes increasingly popular, so do the expectations of interconnectivity between dissimilar networking devices. One of these new emerging networking applications is person-to-vehicle (P2V) communications. The successful existence of this new channel type will be dependent upon a complete understanding of its propagation characteristics. To this end, this paper investigates this channel with measurements performed between a moving vehicle and a stationary person positioned by the side of a road at 5.8 GHz. The measurements presented here show a dominant signal is maintained throughout, including non-line of sight (NLOS) scenarios. The fading properties of this channel have been investigated individually to provide a better characterization of the person-to-vehicle (P2V) channel.
