Abstract
Controllable shunt reactors (CSR) are widely used in the electric energy systems of Russia, especially in the 500 kV voltage class transmission substations. Generator carrying rated active and reactive power has significant loss of active power in stator and rotor circuits, its excitation systems, and generator transformers. Installation of CSR at the power station buses leads to the reduction of losses in stator and rotor circuits of electrical machines, and its excitation systems due to the possibility of control of MCSR reactive power absorption, which provides in its turn generator operation with power factor close to cosφ = 1.0 in all transmission line operation modes. Reduction of generator´s electromotive force and rise of internal angle leads to degradation of stability indices. In this paper, electric power station and its parallel operation to infinite bus had been considered, the effect of CSR deployment to the bus of this station has been studied, and variation of stability indices has been analyzed. Results show that transient stability had been ensured on each occasion while CSR control has positive effect on network voltage level.
