Abstract
This paper delineates a hybrid method to determine the optimal capacitor placement in distribution networks by using fuzzy and shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA). The main purpose is to reduce the power losses and improve the voltage profile of distribution networks. The SFLA is a meta-heuristic search method inspired from the memetic evolution of group of frogs when seeking for food. The SFLA consists of frog leaping rule for local search and a memetic shuffling rule for global information exchange. Here the fuzzy is used for optimal placement of capacitor and SFLA is used to find the capacitor sizes in distribution networks. The proposed method is tested on IEEE 15 bus, 33-bus, 69-bus test systems and the results are presented.
