Abstract :
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is being successfully used in numerous applications. OFDM technique is widely used due to its high spectrum efficiency. Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT) has been used to produce the orthogonal sub-carriers. It was chosen for IEEE 802.11a wireless local area network standard, and it is being considered for the fourth-generation mobile communication systems. In OFDM transmission schemes, the phase noise from oscillator instabilities in the receiver is a potentially serious problem. This paper presents simulation of OFDM transmission scheme & investigation of phase effects under a variety of channel conditions covering both indoor and outdoor environments. The bit error rate (BER) performance plots of the OFDM system affected by errors as function of 3-dB bandwidth of phase noise under different channel conditions were obtained through simulations.
