Abstract :
In this paper, a novel solution to the space vector modulation (SVM) of a five-phase voltage-source inverter (VSI) in the overmodulation region is presented. The method is based on an explicit minimization of the harmonic injected to overmodulate a voltage, which is achieved by using all the degrees of freedom provided by the SVM in a five-phase VSI. The performance and feasibility of the method are evaluated through simulations and experiments. Furthermore, the experimental results are compared with those of other methods of overmodulation found in the literature, showing the superior performance of the proposed method in terms of the amplitude of the harmonic injection required to achieve maximum dc-link voltage utilization.
