Tentative 3GPP Timeline for 5G [Mobile Radio]

The Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has endorsed a tentative timeline for the standardization of next-generation cellular technology, also known as fifth generation (5G). 3GPP is committed to submitting a candidate technology to the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) 2020 process triggered by International Telecommunications Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R). From the perspective of IMT 2020, the key constraints are given by the following two submission deadlines: the initial technology submission by ITU-R Working Party 5D (WP5D) meeting 32 in June 2019 and the detailed specification submission by ITU-R WP5D meeting 36 in October 2020.
