Abstract :
Round semitransparent ground plane was studied for the purpose of optimizing radiation pattern and down-up (DU) ratio of a patch antenna. This paper describes a three-dimensional diffraction of an extraneous source as a ring of magnetic current with a standing wave relative to the azimuthal coordinate on a semitransparent disk. An algorithm is given to determine the unknown electric current of the ground plane by solving the integral equation. Construction of experimental layout and method of definition of average impedance for this construction are presented. The calculated and measured radiation patterns and the DU ratio of the patch antenna with a semitransparent ground plane are compared with the conductive ground plane of the same size. The impact of the phase distribution of impedance on the DU ratio is investigated.
