Abstract :
The results of thermal endurance characterization of electrical insulating materials obtained by the thermogravimetric point slope (TPS) method and the conventional procedure based on the IEC 216 standard are compared in this paper. The limits of application and the interesting characteristics of the TPS method are discussed, showing that the temperature index and halving interval estimates obtained by TPS may be quite close to those derived by the conventional procedure. It is suggested that the rearrangement of categories of insulating materials used for TPS application could improve the estimates and accuracy of the thermal endurance indices
