Abstract :
Results are reported from a new rigorous bit-error-rate analysis appropriate for heterodyne DM-DPSK systems influenced by receiver and phase noise. For a modulation index value of 2 the shot-noise-limited system sensitivity is only 0.9 dB from that of a DPSK system and the phase noise sensitivity is also close to the DPSK sensitivity.
