Abstract :
An implementation of a novel concept called the integrated engineering simulation object-oriented environment (IESE) is presented. At the core of the IESE is an object-oriented database system that uses semantic data models and graphics-oriented manipulations. An online rule-based expert system is incorporated to enforce constraints on connections. Examples of application of the IESE to electromagnetic transient simulations are presented. The generality of this approach to engineering software development is established, and it is shown that extremely diverse applications (including graphics interfaces) can be accommodated by simple modifications to database schemata, without reprogramming
