Abstract
The operation of fiber-based sensors is explained and the two types (intensity-based and phase-based) are examined in detail. Research directed toward the use of fiber-optic interferometric sensors for underwater acoustic sensing is discussed. Developments in fiber-optic magnetic sensors, flow measurement, and gyroscopes are described.<>
