  • Abstract
Radiation-induced degradation of polymeric materials proceeds mainly through free-radical oxidation mechanisms. The radiolytically produced free radicals react with the molecular oxygen to produce the corresponding peroxy radicals. The production of peroxy radicals initiates oxidation processes which then lead to degradation. This tutorial explains the mechanisms of radiation-induced oxidation and analytic techniques that can be used to measure it
