Abstract :
The sonic screwdriver first appeared on ´Doctor Who with Patrick Troughton - the second Doctor - and it was used simply to unlock doors and undo screws. But over the years, the sonic screwdriver has gathered several other functions and has become the timewarp equivalent of a Swiss Army knife. It has been used to regenerate tissue cells, explode brains and as a defense against various energy weapons. But its use as a method to manipulate delicate objects without physically touching them is the practical application that scientists and engineers are keen to recreate.
