Abstract
The internal fault of armature windings is one of the most severe faults for turbogenerators. It is necessary to know the transient currents of the machine when the internal faults occur so as to design suitable protection. Based on the multiloop method, a mathematical model of a turbogenerator with internal faults is developed. The air-gap permeance analysis is used to calculate the parameters and eddy current of the solid rotor. The method is verified by computer simulation and experimental results. The developed model accurately predicts transient currents and provides theoretically insightful information for protecting turbogenerators with internal armature faults
